While Sadi Malot's main focus is on Champagnes, dominated by Chardonnay, this Coteaux Champenois Rouge ’23 is a real unicorn - a still / non-sparkling red wine from Champagne!!
Located in Villers-Marmery, on the Montagne de Reims, the family estate has been in existence for five generations.
First and foremost winegrowers, they nurture the vines to ensure they develop well and retain all the richness of the grapes: their fruitiness, balance, and personality, thereby revealing the terroir, from our plots to our wines.
They constantly strive to question their viticultural practices and environmental impact. To this end they are practicing a full range of holistically natural farming methods - along with Biodynamic principles according to the Demeter certification, they also practice agroforestry: Tree plantings and hedges - single microclimates through protection of soil diversity and living organisms with self containment of each vineyard plot.
Respecting lunar cycles to dictate planting and harvest times, as well as for canopy management.
The wine uses natural/indigenous yeasts for fermentation, using old oak barrels only and undergoing natural malolactic fermentation.
They use minimal sulphur - only at the press and nothing in barrels or bottles and there is no filtration or fining.
The wine was further aged for 24 months in oak barrels.
The result is what you might expect from a top tier Red-Burgundy - a super refined and elegant pinot noir of the highest quality, wonderful acidity, red forest fruit notes with a hint of delicate smoky-oaky notes, super smooth but well pronounced tannins, and a long lasting finish.
